Fuel oil, house projects & mittens
Winter winds are whipping in Northwest Ohio. It was supposed to hit 23 degrees last night. The garden hoses are wound up and in the barn. The leaves are raked up and the roses will be coned soon.
That means house projects will be solely indoors from here on out. I started rejuvenating the finish on the stairs a couple of weeks ago. They need a couple more coats of shellac, and then I can start on the upstairs landing. The kitchen hasn’t made any progress since the appliances came in…so we certainly won’t be finished by Thanksgiving.
The downstairs bathroom is still…icky. We just can’t seem to get to it. We purchased a lovely piece of oak that Dennis will make into a countertop for the bathroom, we have our vessel sink ready to install and I was notified our faucet has come in at Lowe’s.
With the holidays coming, time (and money) for projects gets harder to find. With cold weather coming, motivation is harder to find.
Winter…it seems to come sooner each year and last longer as I get older. I confess I am watching the heating oil tank like it’s filled with gold. Fortunately, the dire predictions they made earlier in the year about oil prices have lessened a bit. Unfortunately, our first fill-up of the year was at the height of the high prices. Received the bill and gulp. From other blogs I’ve read, almost everyone in an old house is watching the thermostat this year.
Can you do house projects while wearing mittens? I’ll let you know.
