We’ve had rain for the last week and a half. It has also been pretty chilly for this time of year. It’s sad and depressing. I look at the roses every day hoping for a little color, but so far, nuthin’.
We haven’t let the rain stop us, however. We did a couple of one day projects that were best accomplished in cooler weather.
We went to a stone company near us and bought a ton of sandstone. Dennis (and me too) expanded and enclosed the plant bed at the back of the yard. We added some additional hostas and ferns and covered it with mulch. The dogs like to wade around in there, usually stopping right in the middle of a hosta to survey the yard. Sigh….
We enclosed a smaller bed near the house with the same stone and relocated some hostas and put new ferns in there. Love hostas. The mature trees on one side of our yard really limit what we can do with the landscaping. Hostas come in so many shapes, sizes and colors, and are so low maintenance, it’s a great way to get a “rich” look for next to nothing.

The next weekend we moved to the front of the yard. We had put a small bed in last year, but it wasn’t nearly big enough in scale and got lost along the privacy fence. We planted some roses, sun-loving ferns and hostas, cone flowers, irises, a hydrangea, salvia, lavender, and heather, baby’s breath and lamb’s ear along the front. We’ve got a couple of ornamental grasses coming from Spring Hill Nursery, a beautiful species called Northern Lights.

Here’s the front bed from a bird’s eye view.

If the sun ever shines, I’ll take better photos. The weather says it’s not looking favorable for the weekend.
Also coming up in the next couple of days, I’ll update you on the bathroom (mis)adventure.
Sorry, no comments yet.
