Well, despite receiving no advice on the new spinning wheel, I bought one today.  I went to up The Spinning Loft to try out some wheels.  The owner, Beth, was very nice when I went to the shop a couple of months ago; so I called her this week and she was very helpful.  She answered all of my questions as well as made some recommendations of wheels I would want to consider.

So we drove the 90 minutes to her shop today (poor Dennis, he gets dragged everywhere).  We spent about an hour and a half in the store and, despite having a weaving class in full swing, Beth spent the entire time showing me the three wheels she felt would meet my requirements.  I test drove the Schacht Matchless, the Majacraft Rose, and the Majacraft Suzie Pro.  I liked both the Majacraft models, they felt extremely comfortable (I didn’t find them particularly attractive), but I kept coming back to the Schacht.  It was beautiful.  It felt sturdy.  I was able to spin on it satisfactorily.  I also liked the fact that ‘out of the box’ it was capable of doing what I wanted it to do.  Other than purchasing different bobbins and whorls when I’m ready for something new, it doesn’t need additional fliers or gizmos (and the associated purchase price of those “speciality” items).  I purchased the Matchless and got the super speed whorl and some lace bobbins as well.

More on this later, for now:
