The sock is coming along.  The yarn is kinda scratchy because of the metallic strand.  I suppose it could act as an exfolliant for your feet every time you wear them.  Smart and thrifty!

Honestly, Hobby Lobby had their Christmas trees on display in early September.  That’s not even necessary, man, and it’s not right.

Oh, by the way, I’m knitting festive Christmas socks today.

Marathon Yarn; North Pole – 316 Victorianna

I purchased yarn and a baby blanket pattern and started to knit it in the spring.  Shortly after we found out she was expecting.  It’s now the fall.  She’s due in 2 weeks.

We had a LOT of house projects going on this spring and summer, therefore, I chose a simple pattern that would be kind of mindless and automatic.  Logical decision, right?

It’s so mindless that it’s boring.  Eyes rolling back in my head boring.  I find myself knitting a few rows each night and putting it aside.    I measured today.  I’m only halfway through the body of the blanket, and still have the edging to do.  She’s due in 2 weeks.  That’s soon.  That’s really soon.   I should be knitting on it now, but I feel queasy just thinking about it.

I shall rethink my easy-peasy strategy should they have a second baby.

Spinning, carding, wool!

Behold:

Look at this face!  There were a good number of alpaca there today.  So sweet.  Look how delicate their necks are!

We purchased fiber from two of the alpacas from these folks today.

I have two photos of the treasures we brought home, the acutal color is somewhere in between.  Not quiet as red as the this photo, but not as washed out as the next one.

The fleece in back is alpaca, as is the ball in front.  The rest is sheep’s wool.  The red dyed wool has streaks of burnt orange and yellow in it.

As before, Maverick had to check out the purchases.  He stuffed his big ol’ head deep inside the bags of fleece and pronounced it A-Ok!

I don’t know if Maverick has it within him to be a herding dog, however, he certainly could supervise the Quality Control department.

There were goat competitions and sheep competitions being held.  There was much fleece and yarn and gizmos.  There was a lot of spinning and knitting being executed.  Unfortunately, I was so mesmerized by all the happenings that I did not take any pictures.  It’s too bad too, because the sheep that were there were really lovely.  Ah well, next year.  It may take me that long to clean, card and spin up what I bought.

Looking for a drum carder, anyone selling?

We are still here.

Much canning of tomatoes and assorted veggies, a big ol’ batch of apple butter & apple pie filing, and canned butter (oh yes, you can do that) has taken a big chunk of time.  There was also the clay oven we build that took a few weekends, see here.  Then, I just got tired…

Oh!  Also, I decided to try knitting.  Just another thing to do.  Boy, am I having trouble with tension.  The end of my rows are fine, but the middle seems to be just really so tight.  Any suggestions on that?

Hopefully, things will start to settle down to a more normal pace and I can post a bit more frequently.

Except for, you know, that whole holiday thing…
