Has spring finally arrived in Northern Ohio? One of the things we worked on last night was the back yard side of the storm damage. One of our rose bushes, a climber and English rose called Teasing Georgia, was half smooshed when the tree fell and the privacy fence buckled. As you look toward it, the entire right half was basically laying on the ground. By the time I got to it last weekend, some canes had actually sprouted new growth that was growing up toward the sun. As you look toward it, the entire right half was basically laying on the ground. By the time I got to it last weekend, some canes had actually sprouted new growth that was growing up toward the sun. I put two trellises against the privacy fence and Northern Ohio has dipped below freezing three times (maybe four) in the last week. We’ve also had spitting snow a couple of days. Winter is coming. Today, Dennis is raking up leaves, moving some of the plants inside, and we’ll start coning roses – probably next weekend. It’s past mid-November, and it’s time, but for the past several years, I’m always suprised when winter rolls around. |
